What is this? What’s the point?
Dead Media Club is a platform for those of us who grew up analog and never bought into the influencer age. It’s not curated, optimized, or trying to go viral. It’s the anti-algorithm for anyone sick of the doomscroll. But this isn’t a nostalgia trap. It’s a place to stay authentic in an increasingly annoying world full of aesthetic parasites on social media. It’s a place for those of us that are growing older, not softer, and we’re doing it with guts, grit, middle fingers up and mixtapes still playing. Can I get a "FUCK YEAH?"
Yes, and we've all seen the soul-sucking wastelands they've become. Dead Media Club is old-school by design. It's a place for slower conversations and a return to pre-algorithm connection, without constantly begging for your time or dopamine. Even better:
- No ads
- No bots
- No cost
- No algorithm
- No influencers
- No clout-chasers
- No monetization
- No data mining
- No demands for attention
- No outside bullshit you never agreed to see
I'm a 21 year-old tryhard with the attention span of a baked potato. I think this is really old-fashioned and dumb.
I'm sure there's a shitty Taylor Swift song somewhere that'll bring you comfort.
Is there an app?
Yes, there is -- sort of.
Who is behind this? What's the catch?
It’s just one tired Gen-Xer with a soft spot for dead tech, good conversation, and a platform that doesn’t sell your soul to advertisers. There’s no catch and no engagement trap.
The user profiles ask for a lot of information. I'm not comfortable with all that.
You're free to use a pseudonym or an old screen name. Your date of birth, however, needs to be accurate so we know you're at least 18. You can hide it from public view entirely.
I'm not technically Gen-X. Can I play anyway?
Sure. Just respect the vibe.
I'm under 18. Can I join?
Absolutely not.
Who can see my posts?
This main page is public. Your private messages are between you and the sender/recipient, and even the admin and moderators can't access those.
Why is there a "Help for Suicidal Persons" thread? That's a bummer.
It’s there because real life isn’t always easy. Our circle lost a friend to suicide, and this thread exists in their memory. It’s not about dwelling on sadness; it’s about making sure that if someone’s struggling, they know they aren’t invisible. You don’t have to engage with the thread if it’s not for you. But it’s staying, because sometimes simply knowing the door is open can save someone’s life.
I'm deeply offended.
Respectfully, don't be so fucking sensitive. You're able to ignore users if necessary, and report any content that's truly objectionable.
I'm unable to post. Something is broken. I need help with XYZ.
Post in the Help Desk forum (if you can), or reach out to the admin via the contact form. You can also cry quietly in the corner and hope someone notices, but the contact form is probably faster.
Is there a light/dark mode?
People that prefer light mode are monsters and shouldn't be trusted. But yes, just go to the bottom of your screen and hit the sun/moon icon to switch between light and dark mode.
I have a suggestion.
Drop them in the Site Feedback thread in the Help Desk, or message the admin directly. Feedback is welcome, but don't be a dick.
How do I update my profile information?
Hit your avatar up at the top, then go to Account Details. You can edit everything there.
How do I view someone else's profile information?
Hit their avatar, then hit their name in the pop-up, then go to the About tab.
I had a few too many and posted something really embarrassing. Help!
There are edit and delete options under your post. Also, don't post things that will embarass yourself or someone else. That's dumb and probably why we can't have nice things.
I sent someone a DM. How can I tell if they've read it?
You can't. Not everyone lives on DM, so take a breath.
